Information about treatment modalities:

TCM Diagnosis: The human body is seen as a reflection of nature and a holistic entity.  A slight imbalance in the body can cause a varied range of health complaints.  To get to the root cause and interrelations of any health concerns there are non invasive diagnostic methods that are used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Through these methods a diagnosis will be determined that is individual for each person.

Acupuncture: Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles on certain points which lay on connected pathways throughout the body where the energy flows.
Acupuncture is a regulating therapy which means that it may remove energy blockages or warm and cool the body.  Whatever the disharmony, acupuncture can work to rebalance the body.

Cupping: Cupping is another therapy method used in Traditional Chinese Medicine.  A vacuum is created over the skin with glass cups, the feeling is similar to a deep tissue massage, tissues as deep as four inches are affected.

The effect is the release of toxins, activation of the lymph system, remove blockages in the body that may be the cause of illness or pain and can stimulate organ function to activate the bodies own healing abilities.

Tuina:  Tuina is Chinese for “pushing and grasping”, and can be described as therapeutic massage or acupressure.  The theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine is used, just as in acupuncture.  Tuina can be used alone, but the best results are seen with a combination of acupuncture and tuina.

Acupuncture for Pregnancy and Postpartum

Pre pregnancy or infertility
Acupuncture and herbal medicine are used to prepare the body for pregnancy by rebalancing any disharmonies before conception occurs, to give your baby the best start from the very beginning.  Treatments to prepare for your next pregnancy should be started a minimum of three months prior to conceiving if possible.  If there are fertility issues, acupuncture and herbal medicine are used to treat the root cause of infertility, helping couples conceive naturally or as an adjunct to IVF treatments.  Studies confirm that acupuncture improves the success rate of IVF 40-60%.
Pregnancy
Acupuncture treatments are done once a week for the last 3 weeks of pregnancy are proven to improve the quality and efficiency of labour, leading to less medical inductions and a more enjoyable experience. Feedback from midwives who attend births of mothers who have had the Acupuncture Preparation for Labour is very positive.  Acupuncture done throughout pregnancy treats complaints that are common and helps give your baby the best start.
Acupuncture Labour Induction treatments are an alternative to medical inductions, a series of 1 to 3 appointments done daily and scheduled three days prior to your medical induction.
Jessica gives private instruction and attends various prenatal classes around the city doing demonstrations on how to use Acupressure during Labour for Pain Relief.
Postpartum
After giving birth the body is drained of essential substances such as blood and energy.  Jessica routinely prescribes a common herbal formula to women who have just given birth to help the body rebuild strength and to purge left over birth matters.  Women will feel more stable as acupuncture has a direct effect on balancing hormones.  Especially helpful after caesarian section which is major abdominal surgery. Acupuncture and herbal medicine treat disorders that are common during the postpartum period such as depression, exhaustion, breastfeeding problems (low milk supply, mastitis).

Postpartum
After giving birth the body is drained of essential substances such as blood and energy.  Acupuncture and herbal medicine naturally help speed up the body’s healing after labour, recovering strength and harmony.  Women will feel more stable as acupuncture has a direct effect on balancing hormones.  Especially helpful after caesarian section which is major abdominal surgery.

Facial Rejuvenation

Facial rejuvenation acupuncture (Cosmetic Acupuncture) is an alternative to cosmetic surgery which reduces the signs of aging and fine lines, improves the elasticity of skin  and brightens the complexion.  Jessica uses her knowledge of TCM to treat the root of the body’s imbalances which in turn bring out beauty and works locally on the face with acupuncture , herbs and massage.  The results are not as dramatic as plastic surgery, but leave your whole body feeling rejuvenated and you will notice a brighter glow in your complexion.  People will say that you look years younger.

Weight loss and Cellulite Treatments

Weight loss treatments involve acupuncture and massage.  The acupuncture works to strengthen the body's Spleen function which has the task of transforming the food you eat into energy, and promotes elimination of waste, dampness and phlegm which is what fat and cellulite are made of in TCM terms.  The other part of the treatment is massage focusing on your problem areas and moving the blocked energy in the body.  Diet and lifestyle will also be addressed in the weight loss and cellulite treatments.
